A Tibetan tea ceremony conducted by a former Buddhist monk will take place at
the Church of Religious Science on March 27 at 7 p.m.
Losang, once a Buddhist monk who studied under the Dalai Lama, will be
hosting the tea ceremony. He is also a specialist in creating mandalas and his
work has been performed at Butte College.
"It took five days to create one of his mandalas that was about eight
feet in diameter," said the Reverend Eileen Brownell of the Church of
Religious Science.
"We call him the Venerable Losang. He is a spiritual person who has the
training of a monk and has meditation workshops and retreats and teaches about
Buddhism," Brownell said.
Brownell has been to his workshops on three previous occasions and has also
seen the Dalai Lama in person when she was in the Bay Area.
"The tea ceremony is a wonderful, delightful ceremony," she said.
A bowl and cup is set in the center of a table and tea is poured into the
cup. "It is symbolic of our lives. When we are open to receive, our
blessings overflow," Brownell said.
During the ceremony, each person is invited to participate and make a wish.
Brownell said of the three times she has made a wish, two have come true.
